OFF THE RAILS - New Zealand Bicycle Tours

A family cycling holiday on the Otago Central Rail Trail inspired Queenstowners Roger and Nicky Tompkins to develop a biking adventure where visitors could enjoy this spectacular New Zealand Rail Trail - without giving up their creature comforts.

These experienced travellers saw the opportunity to create a New Zealand cycle tour with a difference - one that offered the level of service and support that discerning travellers are increasingly looking for. The dedication of our local guides and hosts makes this possible, as does maintaining our own heritage accommodation for the exclusive use of our guests.

Roger and Nicky are joined as directors of OFF THE RAILS by well-known tourism operators Pete Archibald and Sonya Broccardo, who previously owned and operated the world-renowned Hollyford Guided Walk, situated in the World Heritage Fiordland National Park. Pete and Sonya's experience in eco-tourism and their attention to detail ensures that this New Zealand bicycle tour exceeds guests' expectations in every respect.

After just two seasons in operation, OFF THE RAILS was awarded Qualmark's Endorsed Activity status - a sure sign that we are reaching the high standards we work hard at maintaining for all our Otago Rail Trail guests. We are also an official Central Otago Brand and a member of the Rail Trail Operators Group, marking our involvement with the Rail Trail's local tourism industry.

OFF THE RAILS has two locations, the first in New Zealand's premier four-season resort - Queenstown - and the second in Ranfurly, Art Deco capital of the South Island and hub of the Rail Trail. Ranfurly is the location for the company's two restored heritage properties used for guests' accommodation and an Art Deco commercial building to house our bikes and passenger transport.

Between us, we know the characters and quirks of Central Otago. We know the best fishing spots, back roads and country pubs. We love the Rail Trail's history, its landscape and its people. Our passion is sharing it with others - let us share it with you.
