A Home away from homeā€¦.

Once you get to your accommodation at the end of the first day of the tour, relax! This will be your home for the duration of your bicycle holiday on the rail trail.

No need to pack up each day and carry gear with you. No need to wonder whether you will be able to cycle as far as your next lodgings. Just unpack, make yourself at home, settle in and enjoy.

Your hosts will discuss your options for the next day and arrange transport to and from your dinner destination in one of the local historic villages, such as Wedderburn, Naseby and St. Bathans.

A healthy continental breakfast is supplied each day.

The Plains Retreat

The Plains Retreat is no longer available.

The Plains Retreat is no more. Our second accommodation venue saw its last guests on the 29th of April. OTR has enjoyed having guests up there for over 10 years. Despite some limitations this has been a welcoming, warm and friendly place to stay. We will miss it.

In some ways this was a sad moment but there is a happy side also. The hospital rebuild has already begun and the Maniototo will soon have a great new facility. The community has raised millions of dollars to help make this a reality - a fantastic effort.

We are working hard to ensure that we have a brand new lodge built for the start of the next season. We realised that we had a plot of land behind Railway Cottage that was the perfect location to build modern, specialist accommodation, with each room having an ensuite bathroom.

At present we are preparing the site. We have removed several trees and cleared a lot of overgrown garden. This has been pretty hard work and the frosts have already started. The local council has granted resource consent and we can't wait to get our local builder on site and under way.

Railway Cottage

The cottage was built in 1906 and lovingly restored without losing its character.

The cottage sleeps six. There are one twin and two double bedrooms, two bathrooms (one ensuite), kitchen/dining room, and a separate lounge. There is a large sunny garden with a BBQ and seating.

The cottage is an easy walk to Ranfurly's art deco landmarks, shops and restaurants.

There is plenty of off-street parking available if required.
